The Problem

The Philippines ranks 5th in the world for time spent online, with nearly 9 hours a day per person!

Over 80% of the population uses the internet.

And 95% of those users are on Facebook.

And yet only less than 10% use the internet to look for work. Less than 5% engage in professional networks.

And in 2023 alone, Filipinos lost an estimated ₱150 billion to online scams!

A 75% increase from the year before.

The problem isn't access.

It's what happens  (or doesn't ) after people get online. Most digital safety programmes are built for people already in school, already employed, already digitally literate. Nobody is building for the majority.

BANTAYnet exists for everyone else.

Our Mission

BANTAYnet is a SEC registered nonprofit working at the intersection of digital safety, inclusion, and advocacy. We don't just teach people to avoid scams - we address the structural reason so many Filipinos are vulnerable in the first place: multiple overlapping digital divides that most programmes pretend don't exist.

Our work is built on three pillars: Digital Literacies Education, Consulting, and Advocacy.

Half Swiss - half Filipina, educated in the UK with a background in Digital Political Communication (University of London) and Social Media Behaviour research,  Rahel brings an outside perspective to a field dominated by technical insiders. She has a rare talent for translating complex digital concepts into language that actually makes sense - across cultures, literacy levels, and languages.

Based in Bohol,  Philippines, she bridges the gap between how the internet is built and how most Filipinos actually experience it. She is deeply passionate about advocating for the millions left out of the conversation entirely.

What our BANTAYnetizens say

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Nowadays there's a lot of online scammers. BANTAYnet helped me to be mindful when it comes to suspected scammers. I often received text messages informing me that I won cash prizes. It seems legit yet I keep in mind that something that is too good to be true is not. I learn to be more extra careful. Thanks to BANTAYnet for all the informative content that you shared to us."

"I've learned so much from this page. From being aware of what scammers and hackers do. From not being scared to tell others what you truly feel, especially if you know you were scammed and you don't know where to go. What I loved about BANTAYnet is that they were like a friend to you. They may not be there for you physically, but you can have a virtual friend who will help you, answer you and communicate with you."

"I do learn a lot from BANTAYnet. I love their content and the video editing they include which is engaging and easy to comprehend. The thing that I learned and was able to utilize in my daily life as a person who often uses Facebook is that a lot of people online could be a possible scammer. I joined a lot of different Mommy groups where I usually visit to learn new things as a new mom, and I saw a lot of posting who kept asking for financial help. It was the same post posted using different fake profiles in order to ask for donations. It came to my mind that these are scammers that's why I frequently reported these posts with the group admin in order to take it down to prevent other people from being scammed. Thanks to BANTAYnet cause it reminds us to be mindful and aware about these online scams."
